Volunteerism
For people interested in giving back to the community, ARC provides the means to volunteer with a variety of agencies and organizations including Meals on Wheels, the Hi-Tor Animal Shelter, local soup kitchens, thrift shops and hospital gift shops. Volunteerism is a wonderful way to bolster self-confidence while contributing to others.
Independence
The term independence is as different for each person as is the color of one's eyes or hair. Helping people move towards increasing levels of independence is an important aspect of what we do at ARC. For one person this may mean learning to fry an egg, for another it might mean mastering the public transportation system. Whatever the goal - ARC is determined to help each person live life with dignity, joy, accomplishment and a sense of independence.

Programs & Services Day Programs
Children | Teens | Recreation | Residential | Career Training | Seniors | Day Programs | Transitioning

Where the Action Is... That's where ARC Day Services spends its time. The Rockland County community offers an endless array of opportunities for education, recreation and socialization. No two people are alike. Therefore, individual needs, skills, and aspirations are taken into account when planning activities for each person. Some people are enrolled in Day Services on a full time basis. Others work several days a week and participate in ARC's Day Services Division part-time. ARC's Congers campus and ARC's Franklin Square campus in Pearl River serve as duel headquarters from which Day Services participants branch out to enjoy events and activities throughout Rockland County.

Academics
Computer competency, literacy classes and basic math are among the courses available to eligible individuals. Frequent visits to the library and trips to local sites of historical interest expand the classroom walls.

Employment Potential
ARC's Franklin Square campus gives post high school graduates a chance to prepare for future employment. Training in the food service industry, retail business and office work provide a framework through which students can hone skills and refine choices. Eligible students may enroll in classes at Rockland Community College. Visits to various businesses and industries throughout the county give students a broad overview of potential employment possibilities. ARC's Day Services division works closely with ARC's Career Services Division to maximize the potential for employment. Visit Website >

Inclusion
Inclusion is the buzz word of the day. Whether it is lunch at a local restaurant, an exercise class at the 'Y', a dance class at the local dance studio, weekly horseback riding sessions or a picnic in the park, there is much to enjoy in and around Rockland County. Bowling, swimming, shopping, volunteering... these are the ways in which people meet and mingle.

Health, Exercise and Therapeutic Services
A staff of highly trained professionals monitor the health needs of each person. As is always the case, every individual is precisely that – an individual with specific needs and abilities. ARC is in touch with family members, physicians, therapists and other personnel to ensure that each person achieves the maximum independence possible. Exercise is an important aspect of life. For some people this may mean taking a class at the local 'Y'. For others it might mean joining the bowling league. Both ARCs Congers campus and the Franklin Square Pearl River campus offer exercise rooms in which men & women enjoy workouts designed for the specific individual. A skilled nursing staff is on hand at both the Congers and Pearl River sites.
