Recreation
Recreation is the much needed — much enjoyed — world in which we learn how to be social beings. It is the hobbies, activities and opportunities that expand the world and challenge our bodies and our minds. ARC offers year 'round courses, classes, trips, dances and special events that run the gamut from the athletic to the artistic, from the pensive to the hilarious, from learning to teaching, to appreciation and satisfaction.

Spring, summer, autumn and winter sessions are open to adults ages 18 and above. Ceramics, line dancing, billiards, movies, Get Fit classes with Richard Simmons (on video) and cooking are just a few of the offerings.
Dancing the Night Away—Horns and hats for the New Year, hearts and flowers for Valentines Day, Tam o'Shanters for St. Patrick's Day and colorful costumes on Halloween are just a few of the themes that add flavor to monthly Friday Night Dances at ARC headquarters in Congers, NY.
Take the Plunge!—Weekly swimming at ARC of Rockland's therapeutic pool in New City is a great way to socialize while exercising.
Curtain Up!—Adult drama classes are the perfect venue for aspiring actors, and equally satisfying for those who wish to work behind the scenes. Acting, singing, dancing, set design, make-up artistry, costuming, choreography and stage direction are all aspects of staging a production. Two major performances yearly.
Strike!—League and recreational bowling take place Sunday mornings at Hi-Tor Lanes in Haverstraw, NY. Beginners and experts are welcome.
Academics—Lessons in history, literature, math and current events are woven into the overall curriculum. Active discussions led by Franklin Square staff members keep students interested and involved in local, state and national issues. The emphasis on reading and writing ensure that skills learned in high school are sharpened and enhanced.
