Home Sweet Home
It's the fragrance of coffee brewing in the morning, photos of family on the living room walls. It's the sound of laughter around the dinner table, a pot of geraniums at the front door. Home is the place where friends are welcome – a comfortable place, a caring place. Home – is where the heart is.

Community Residences
Beautiful ARC operated houses and apartments are located in neighborhoods throughout Rockland County. Each living environment is home to a small group of people whose ages, interests and levels of ability are similar. A ranch-style house in a lovely suburban setting may be perfect for people with physical challenges. An apartment near the center of town may be just the thing for two or three young friends who want to live within walking distance of movie theatres and restaurants. Easy access to public transportation, proximity to the local library, the distance to the nearest supermarket – are issues worthy of consideration when choosing a new home. ARC listens to the needs of the individual. Then – and only then – ARC sets out to create the appropriate living arrangement. Highly qualified staff people supervise residences 'round the clock.

Leisure Activities
Backyard barbeques, holiday parties, attendance at house of worship, frequenting local retail shops, a trip to the movies - these are important components of home-life. ARC staffers assist residents in pursuing individual interests and hobbies both at home and in the community. In addition, many people living in ARC residences enjoy the numerous activities, classes, courses, trips and events offered through ARC's Leisure Services Division.

Independent Living
For some adults with disabilities, living on one's own with minimal supervision is a viable option. ARC is available to help establish living arrangements that allow for the greatest possible independence. Through services such as ARC Residential Habilitation, skilled ARC staff members provide assistance with specific aspects of independent living.

Transportation
ARC's residential staff transports people to and from medical and dental appointments and recreational activities and events.

Residential Habilitation
Independence is a much desired aspect of life. A little professional help with some areas of day-to-day activities may make independent living a reality. An ARC staff member will meet regularly with the individual to help him or her master specific tasks associated with living independently. For instance, one person may require help with budgeting, another may need guidance in planning and preparing meals. The objective is to provide the framework for ever increasing independence.

In Home Respite
An ARC-trained professional spends time with an adult or child with a developmental disability living in the family home. In-home respite gives parents/caregivers the opportunity to do the grocery shopping, make dinner, attend to the needs of other family members, visit a doctor/dentist with the knowledge that the family member with a disability is in good hands.
