Give the Gift of Giving

Shop at The Arc’s Strawtown and Glaze

“When you purchase a holiday gift at Strawtown Jewelry, you will actually be giving twice,” says Lisa Avla, Manager of Retail Operations for The Arc Rockland’s business enterprises.

jewelry1Strawtown Jewelry in New City and Glaze Pottery and Art Studio in Orangeburg are owned and operated by The Arc Rockland, an agency providing supports and services to people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. “We pride ourselves on hiring people of all abilities to work at both Strawtown and Glaze,” explains Carmine Marchionda, CEO of The Arc. “For many years, we have encouraged area businesses to hire people with developmental disabilities. The Arc’s ownership of Strawtown and Glaze allows us to lead by example.”

Located at 40 S. Main Street in New City, Strawtown Jewelry has recently undergone a makeover. “The shop has a new look and a new feel,” says Ms. Avla. “Our younger shoppers especially love our Street Chic collection of jewelry and accessory items .”
The party room at Glaze Pottery and Art studio in the Orangetown Shopping Center has also been given an upgrade,” notes Ms. Avla. “Glaze is a great place for a pre-holiday painting get together. Guests can select the items they wish to give as gifts, paint them on the spot and pick them up fully-glazed a few days later.”

jewelry2“Whether you find that perfect piece of jewelry at Strawtown or paint something special at Glaze to give to someone you love, you’ll be helping The Arc provide employment to people with developmental disabilities ,” says Ms. Alva. “And that, in itself, is a gift.”
